POS: Payment Surcharge - Tip Charge for all Payment Surcharges
Introduction
- For all payment surcharges like Surcharge and Dual Price, a Tip Charge will be available.
- Currently, the Tip Charge is only calculated for Service Charge (here the Tip Charge is calculated based on the Card Type selection).
Back Office
Back Office Settings
Navigation: Log into the BO for your Store, then select Settings > Payments > Payment Settings
- With the Payment Surcharge (set to YES), there are options for Surcharge, Service Charge and Dual Price.
- Include a tip percentage for Surcharge (Surcharge Tip Percentage) and Dual Price (Dual Price Tip Percentage)- whereas for Service Charge it is already present. Up to 100% is allowed.
- Surcharge – If payment is made via cash there will be a cash discount - but if made via credit card then the discount will not be applied and a service charge will be calculated and added as a fee for using card.
- Dual Price – The price of a $10 menu item is increased to $10.50 (due to $0.50 service charge). If the customer paid via cash then the price will be discounted by $0.50 with the customer paying just $10 - whereas if they paid via card then they would pay the whole $10.50.
Calculation in POS
When user selects Surcharge / Dual Price is selected then payment is made - the Tip Charge would be calculated as follows:

Tip Out / Tip Sharing Settings
Navigation: Log into the BO for your Store, then select Settings > Store > Reports > Tip Out & Tip Sharing. Select the Tip Sharing tab.
- Under Include Below in Tip Share, the options Online Pickup Tip, Declared Cash Tip, Gratuity, and Driver compensation are available with corresponding checkboxes.
- For each checkbox: if selected, the type of Tip will be added as part of calculating the Tip Share.

Back Office Impacts
Navigation: Log into the BO for your Store, then select User Management > Tip Adjustment
Manual Tip Sharing
Manual Tip Shared = Overall amount of Tip shared.
- Example: A Bartender's Tip is $96, and after the Tip out contribution of $10 it will be $86, then + Online Tip of $20 = $106. A Server's Tip is $144 + Online Tip of $20 = $164. The Total will be the sum of both tips ($106 + $164) = $270 which will appear as the Shared Tip under Manual Tip Sharing.
The Remaining Manual Tip Shared shows the remaining amount of Tip after sharing.
- Example: Manual Tip Shared is $270. From that amount, $100 is shared with the Remaining amount as $170 which will be shared in Remaining Manual Tip Shared.
Check Owner
Navigation: Log into the BO for your Store, then select Settings > Application > General Settings
Regardless of the Check Owner. Driver compensation should be sent to the driver and that driver compensation which is sent to driver will be taken for tip sharing.
Exempt Surcharge and Dual Price
If both Exempt Surcharge and Include Dual Price are disabled then the Tip Charge will calculate for the payment.
If Exempt Surcharge is enabled, the Tip Charge won't be considered even though it is present.
Example: When paying via card and the Tip Charge is present at 5% and the Exempt Surcharge option is enabled: the Tip Charge amount won't be considered and will be zero.

If Exempt Surcharge is disabled: the Tip Charge will be considered for calculating the Employee Tip.

If Exempt Surcharge is disabled and Surcharge Tip Charge Percentage is configured: the Tip Charge will be calculated.
Based on the payment, the Tip Charge will be calculated for both Partial and Full payments.

Dashboards
Under Summary Dashboard, the Tip Charge will appear as a separate line item (Tip section).
Impacted Reports
The Tip Charge will appear as a line item in the below reports (as like as Service Charge - Tip Charge).
Store Level Reports
Sale Recap – Tip Charge Line item will appear under Tip/Gratuity
Cashier Out - Tip Charge Line item will appear under Tip
Employee Report – Role Based Payroll Report – The Tip Charge column will appear (as-is).
Enterprise Level Reports
Sale Recap - Tip Charge Line item will appear under Tip/Gratuity
Cashier Out - Tip Charge Line item will appear under Tip
Employee Payroll Report – Tip Charge column will be available and impacted.
Implementation in POS
Navigation: Login to POS, then select Operations > Employee
The Manual Tip Shared that is deducted in Tip Adjustment (User Management in BO) will be reflected in POS on the Manual Tip Sharing screen under Total Tip to Share.
Example: A Bartender's tip is $96, and after Tip Out contribution of $10 + Online Tip of $20 = $106. The Server's tip is $144 + online tip of $20 = $164. The Total = $106 + $164 = $270 which will be shown under the Total Tip To Share.
The Remaining manual tip shared shows the remaining amount of tip after sharing.
Example: The Total Tip To Share is $270 with $100 from being shared. The remaining $170 will be shared in Remaining Tip Share.
Note:
- Tip Share and other existing functionalities will work as-usual.
- Changes in the table will impact the download file (excel, pdf, csv).
- In the Enterprise Payroll Report, the changes won't impact in the Excel download format for Sage 300 and ProLiant.
New Changes
The Tip Charge for All Payment Surcharge will apply to Online Ordering, Virtual Kiosk and Call Center orders.
OLO Tip
When Delivery Tip and Online Tip are provided in OLO: the Online Tip Charge will be calculated.
Sale Recap Report
When Tip Charge is present for OLO orders, then when Online Tip is clicked, the Oline Tip Charge line item will be included. The Online Tip will include Delivery Tip, Pickup Tip and Online Tip Charge.
Cashier Out Report
When Tip Charge is present for OLO orders, then when Online Tip is clicked the Online Tip Charge line item will be included. The Online Tip will include Delivery Tip, Pickup Tip and Online Tip Charge.
Navigation: Log into the BO for your Store, then select Settings > Report Settings > Sale Recap Report
- The Tip Charge will be included in Sale Recap Report Settings – Formula Definition - Cash Expected and Over Shortage.
- The Tip Charge will default to being deducted in the Over /Shortage formula and added in the Cash Expected formula.
Existing Flow
The Tip Charge will act based on the Tip Charge Deduction before the Tip Sharing option (like as-is).
- If this option is enabled, then Tip Charge will be deducted before tip sharing and this calculation takes place in the role-based payroll report.
- If this option is disabled, then directly from the Tip Sharing the calculation will occur.
- When both Tip Charge (POS) and Online Tip Charge (OLO) are applied, then the separate line item will be included in the Summary dashboard as Tip Charge and Online Tip Charge.
- When Tip Charge is present in both OLO and POS, then the role-based payroll report will consolidate the sum of these tip charges into one and tip sharing calculation takes place.
Transaction Report (Transaction and Void Transaction Report)
The Tip Charge column is displayed as CC Tip Charge where POS Tip Charge and Online Tip Charge will be consolidated into one and displayed here.
